You Can’t Focus on the Front Sight: 3 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t

Hey guys what’s going on, Chris Sajnog here, founder of The New Rules of Marksmanship training system. And in this post, I’m going to give you the top three reasons why you can’t focus on the front sight only when shooting. Now let’s go ahead and get started.

In this post, I just want to cover the top three reasons people say you can’t focus on the front sight only. I got these from my online members, who have sent me these YouTube videos of these instructors explaining why you shouldn’t and can’t focus on your front sight.

Obviously, I think it’s super important to focus on your front sight if you want to hit your target. So let’s go over those videos.

#1 Only Need To Point and Shoot?

I’ve had more people send me this video because it’s from a professional shooter. In the video, he says that you just need to point the gun in the direction of your target and shoot. He literally says, “Just point and shoot.”

It’s kind of hard to watch, especially if you notice that he is using a red dot sight which allows you to be able to point and shoot. He’s forgetting that it takes decades of daily practice of focusing on the front sight to get my muscle memory and my neural pathways all built.

So if you think you can just point and shoot at the target, it doesn’t really work like that. The one time I will say that this is a good idea is if you do not really plan on learning how to shoot.

In many studies of very new shooters, they found that the easiest way to get them to hit their target is to just have them point and shoot. So if that’s you go ahead and use that technique.

#2 Won’t Be Able To Focus Under Stress?

Alright, so video number two. It’s a firearms instructor. He is theorizing that under stress, you wouldn’t be able to focus on the front sight. I’m not making that up. That’s really all he says.

I’m not about theories, I’m about science. Science says if you want to hit your target, you need to focus on the front sight. Now with this, I will tell you, if you don’t train properly, you’re not going to be able to focus on the front sight.

If you’re not doing meditation, if you’re not doing dry fire training, if you’re not practicing focusing on the front sight, and then introducing stress, you’re not going to be able to see that thing under stress.

So again, this might be right for you if you don’t plan on practicing training.

#3 It Just Makes Sense

Alright, so the third and final video, it’s actually kind of funny. It’s somebody saying essentially, that it just makes sense to look at the target. “Like how could you possibly hit a target if you’re not looking at it.”

It all comes down to practice. I have several videos and blog posts out there that you can watch. In these videos, I teach you how to actually aim your gun to be able to hit your target when you can’t focus on the front sight only. So that is it for today. I hope this has cleared some things up for you. I hope it helps you continue paving your path to perfection.
